2019, The year I become an expert at Python.

I will master Python!

As you know, for the past few months I have been learning about computer programming. HTML, CSS, and most recent Python3. I am fast falling in love with this language (to be honest I have zero experience with any other languages…).
A few simple reasons that I love this language:

  1. The syntax.
  2. The support.
  3. The ‘Monty Python’ references.

The syntax

The syntax for Python3 is fairly easy to read. As you scan a line, you can usually tell what is going on in the program. *If you are a complete beginner, it may not be as readily apparent.*

The support

There are so many resources available to learn Python. As stated in a previous post (You can find it here ), I have been going through Udemy courses and have had pretty good success with this avenue. Python is in version 3 now, and that means a lot of information is available. *A quick side note: Python 2 and 3 are not interchangeable, some of the syntax are different. For example if you wrote a program in Python2, it may not work in a Python3 IDE.* At the end of this post I’ll post links to some great resources if you want to dive into this crazy world of programming.

The ‘Monty Python’ references

Python is full of Monty Python references. From the basic ‘Hello world’ programs you start with (a lot of tutorials reference spam, bacon, and eggs from a Monty Python skit) to the name of the language its self.

I will become an expert in 2019

My coding goal for 2019 is to become an expert in Python. I will accomplish this by diligent study, participation in the #100DaysOfCode challenge and building real world programs that will tackle a range of problems.

Now I know what you’re thinking, ‘Ya, ya, we have heard it all before. You have these grand plans, tell the world you are going to do this thing or that, but in the end you fizzle out and leave us hanging, empty and hollow!’.

Well that is where another goal for 2019 of mine (and my wife for that matter) will come into play. I have challenged myself to be true to my word. If I say I will do something, Ill do my best to do that which I have said. The basis for this is from the bible. Ill be writing another post soon about this (along with other things) soon so if you want to stay informed subscribe to my blog posts!

All right enough of a squirrel,  back to the point.

One of the many reasons that I want to learn and be an expert at Python ( and eventually a host of other languages) is the opportunity I see for myself and my family. The tech industry is not going away, ever. Just about everything we do involves computers, the internet, programs, etc. We are connected and I want to be apart of the future that is right here, right now.

I invite you to tag along with me on this new adventure. Journey with me into this land of tech, and watch me as I grow into the Python Master I know I can be!!!

As promised, here are some links to help you get started on your coding journey.

Python is my new favorite!

Hello and good Tuesday to you!I am just doing a quick post to say how much I am loving to learn Python 3! This programming language is actually easy to learn and there are a ton of resources on the internet to teach you how to code.

As Ive mentioned in another post here, I have bought a few courses on the site Udemy. I really like the courses so far and am learning a ton about the web.

In the next few coming post, I will share with you the journey I am on to teach myself to code and to become a professional coder! Well thanks for looking and have a great day!!!

Thomas

Where do we go from here?

Well a new adventure is happening in my life! (that seems to always be the case with me, doesn’t it?) I have been really into learning how to code and do HTML, CSS,
and Bootstrap things. I believe it is due in large part to my recent acquisition of a awesome little piece of hardware called the raspberry pi .

A couple resources I’ve been using to teach myself to do this are:

  1. Udemy
    • This guy is a fantastic teacher, I highly recommend his courses .
      Colt Steele
  2. Sololearn
    • This is a really cool free site to start learning on.
  3. Free Code Camp
    • This also is a great free resource to learn how to code.

Soon I will post a review/walkthrough of the Raspberry Pi, I love this little computer!
Thats all I wanted to share today. I am really excited to continue on with this journey and I will keep updates coming about my progress. Thanks for looking and have a great day!

What I learned this week. 4-28-18

img_0655

This quote speaks to me today. I believe that we should never stop learning, we should always strive to better our knowledge of our partners, our work, our hobbies, etc.

Getting into today’s post, I want to tell you a few things that Ive learned this week.

Two things learned this week have been:

  1. That my wife is terrified of the dentist.
  2. How to sell products on Amazon.

I took my wife to the dentist on Thursday, and found out that she is really terrified. I should have realized that she was that scared to go but I missed the clues until we were there and I could see it all over. I learned form this experience that I need to pay more attention to my wife and ask questions when things seem off.

This week I have been consumed with the idea of selling on Amazon. I was listening to a podcast from Project life mastery and they were talking about selling products on amazon using the FBA system. FBA means fulfilled by amazon. In using this system, you as the seller get to take advantage of the Prime shipping, and all the perks that go along with that. One great way to do this is called Retail arbitrage. In a nut shell it is buying things at a discount and selling them for a profit. I have found a few products that I believe will make me a profit. I will be sending them to an amazon warehouse soon and then they will be listed and (hopefully) sold.

I have prayed about this as a way to make extra cahs and possibly a way to have more freedom of time. I ask that when you read this you say a little prayer about this for me and my family.

One more thing, I am going to try my best to update this blog weekly, and to improve on my writing, storytelling, and start to provide some content that is packed full of value.

With that being said, I am going to sign off for today, Thanks for reading and God bless you. Also if you have any prayer request please send me an email and I will pray for you!  Thomas Muzzy

Becoming a friend

friends

In keeping with the theme of being more proactive, I’d like to talk about proactively building and maintaining relationships. Why be proactive you ask? Building and maintaining relationships doesn’t happen on its own. For example, think about when you’re standing in line at the grocery store with people on either side of you jostling to set their items down on the conveyor belt. 9 times out of 10 unless you are proactive about building a relationship by speaking to them, you will pay for your items and leave never having accomplished that goal.

Here is a great example of what happens when 2 people are proactive about initiating and building a relationship: Sunday I was in Phoenix sitting outside of David’s bridal on the sidewalk. I couldn’t go in as my fiancé was getting her dress fitted and I can’t see her until the wedding day. (Oh how I’d love to though…) I was reading the book Personality Plus by Florence Littauer. I looked up, and saw this guy stop at the entrance to another shop next door. When he saw me look at him, he stepped back from the door and called out “whats that you’re reading?”. At this point of the conversation, in previous years I would have said the title and buried my head back in the book, hoping to be left alone. But now a wonderful thing happens. I am genuinely interested in others and desire to be proactive about building relationships. So we strike up a great conversation, and just enjoy each other’s company for a while. Soon his lady came out and they had to go. We added each other to Facebook and away they went.
It was a refreshing experience and you know what? I learned about a business I had zero prior knowledge about, and he learned about a great resource to learn more about people. It was a win-win situation that resulted in a new friendship.
Building new relationships is fun too.
You get to try new things, be exposed to new ideas, and measure your progress.

How to be proactive in building relationships
Building relationships is actually really easy, it just takes a bit of knowledge and a lot of action.
1. Realize people are afraid of rejection.
The fear of rejection makes people immobile, that frees you up. Now you realize they want to build a relationship but are scared. Not you though! You are now armed with knowledge to combat this .
2. Now you know they are afraid but want this, take the initiative to say hello. You have no fear to stop you from making a friend.
3. Maintain the relationship. It’s been said that if you want something done do it yourself. This applies here. You be the proactive one and stay in contact with this person. If they take the initiative, great! If not, you were going to do it anyway.

Being proactive about building relationships and maintaining them is so vital to our self growth. Changing the world starts in our own hearts and armed with the proper knowledge we can go forth, choose to be happy, and choose to use this knowledge to better the world. Remember, know that they are afraid, take the initiative, and maintain the relationship.

How are you going to use this information to change the world?

What would you do with more time?

The day after “hump day” is always a great day. Just two days left of the grind then off to the weekend. In some cases (mine) the weekend has also been somewhat of a grind, although it’s a more fulfilling grind. Even so, the excitement of the weekend cannot be denied. The fact that you can, or if you prefer not, do anything you like. Yesterdays post about The feeling of summer has made me think about the way we live our lives now.index1

What would it be like to live free from the restraints of a “job” and the time that it sucks away from your life? Where would you go, what would you do, how would you help, if you had unlimited time? Try this: Imagine what you would do with your life if you had the means to have no job, yet be financially free to do as you wish.

Break that into categories and dream with me for a minute will you?

  1. Faith- How would you glorify God?
  2. Family- How would your relationship with your spouse and kids improve?
  3. Friends- What would it look like to just hang out with a friend?
  4. Fellow humans (the world)- How could you help the world be better, change it?

There are endless possibilities to think of.

I don’t know your exact situation, but what I believe is that we all yearn for more time. The quote above is such a great example of what happens. We can never get more time. I for one am making a choice to move my life out of the “trade time for money” quadrant to the “have time, make money” quadrant.

There is a book by Robert Kiyosaki, Rich Dad’s CASHFLOW Quadrant: Rich Dad’s Guide to Financial Freedom
That is really a great read. It explains the idea of the quadrants, what they mean and how you can move into the better quadrants.

So it begs the question again… What would you do with more time?

Like comment and share this thing! Lets all band together to make yourlifetochoose explode, wide open. Hello World!

The feeling of summer

kids

Do you remember the feeling of summer? That excited anticipation of things undiscovered. That feeling of waking up and hearing the Insects buzzing outside. The knowledge, the absolute surety that something big was waiting for us that day.
When was the last time you dreamed? No not while being asleep, but actively dreaming, building something in your mind that you knew for a fact was going to happen. The knowledge that part of your day was going to be spent just watching clouds. Taking each experience as they came and living fully, enjoying the moment. Never regretting a nap or that extra cookie you ate. That feeling of joy and free-ness that so eludes us today….

I remember. I remember sleeping on the grass outside at night. I remember sneaking off to hang out at the school, ark sodium lamps casting their orange glow all about. I remember the excitement of Fourth of July dances and just hanging out with friends.

Don’t get me wrong here, I love the life I have. I have a great fiance, a house some vehicles, a few toys. Sometimes though, I miss that sense of just utter joy at the thought of going to play on the mountain, living free from the hassles of big boy life.

Now friends, while reading those lost feelings, did they spark something? Nostalgia perhaps? Did you really start to feel how it was to be back in those days? If you did remember those feelings please, I implore you, seize them and hold them tight! They are priceless.

Now I want you to think of something. If you can remember those feelings, have the nostalgia for those feelings, what do you think is stopping you from actually feeling those day in and day out? As I said seize those feelings and hold onto them. If you can remember that feeling you can actually have it again. Do me a favor will you, tomorrow go outside and just look at the clouds for a few minutes.
God bless you 🙂

She is most important

I saw this picture the other day,

And thought to myself “haha that is exactly what is seems like sometimes!”.
So random. So inconsistent. So frustratingly…awesome. Admit it guys, if she were just like your buddy Jim (only with less facial hair) you wouldn’t go out of your way to impress her, to make her feel special, or to do what ever it is you do for her. You wouldn’t do all those little things that you do for her, would you? Embrace the unique way you get to interact with her. Work on your communication skills (listening, anyone?). Work on making her your highest mortal pedestal, only under God. Treat her like the queen she is! index

One of the best ways I have found to learn to communicate and understand my fiance, is to read physical books and/or listen to audio books. Two great books that have really opened my eyes are Love and respect by Dr. Emerson Eggeriches, and For men only by Jeff and Shaunti Feldhahn.
(Click on the links to check these out on Amazon, great reads and WELL worth your time.)

God bless you and make the choice to have a great day!

Be Proactive and Choose your life

“I know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestionable ability of man to elevate his life by conscious endeavor.” ~ Henry David Thoreau

image

I’ve been harping on this for a while now, but it needs to be driven home. Be proactive in choosing and building the life you want. Why be proactive you ask? You wouldn’t let the salesman choose the car you buy, the cashier choose which groceries you purchase, or the blog poster to choose which posts you read, would you? Of course you wouldn’t. You know what you want. You’re proactive in these areas of your life. Now, since we agree on that, take that same principle and apply it to building your life and moving towards your goals and dreams!
“I can do that!” you may be saying to yourself, “but how?”. Here I will tell you three simple steps to move toward being more proactive.
Becoming proactive
The method I like to use to be more proactive in my own life is called the   W. I. N. Method. I developed the following method to be a quick reference as to how to be proactive about building the life that I want.

image

Step one- Write
Step one in the W. I. N Method Is to write out what you want. What area of your life would you like to become more proactive in? Be specific. Write something like
“I want to get better at keeping my word to my friends”, Instead of something general like “I want to improve relationships in my life”. While improving relationships is great, being specific helps to refine the steps that you need to take to arrive at the specific place you want. Now let me clarify that with an example. How many of you are interested in firearm sports, target shooting and the like? When shooting at a target but you only aim in the general direction of the target, 99 times out of 100 you’re going to miss the mark you want to hit. Now replaced target with goals in that sentence and… You get the idea.
Step two- Inspect
Step two in the W.I.N. Method is inspect your life and determine the places you need to improve to get you to your goal. Going back to an earlier example, if you want to get better at keeping your word to your friends, think of that goal and work backwards to figure out the steps that need to take place. The following can serve as a very simple example. If you wanted to get better at keeping your word, but you work on your golf swing technique, you’re not making much progress at keeping your word. Agreed?
On the flip side if you wanted to get better at keeping your word, and make a commitment to do everything you say you will for today (micro- improvements are key!). That my friends is where success is built.

image

Step Three- Navigate
Step three in the W.I.N. Method is to navigate toward the goal you have set for yourself. Sticking with the “keeping your word” example, this is the step where action happens. In the navigate step, you now put into practice the things you wanted to improve upon. For example: if you say you will do something, do it, or for instance you say you will be somewhere at a certain time, be there.
Remember the W.I.N. Method
Write
Inspect
Navigate
Put this practice in place, and start seeing the amazing results fast.

Being proactive and choosing the life you want is a choice we all can make daily, and the end result will yield the things we desire!
